This year’s Annual Meeting started early with four workshops on Monday afternoon. Early birds got a chance to learn more about; the Criteria Review and Approach Document (CRAD)  HotSpot and EPIcode, Collaborating with EDMS SharePoint and Spokesperson Training.

Tuesday was dedicated to Subcommittee Breakout Sessions where members met to discuss, benchmark and collaborate on issues related to their various fields of study and interests.

The tone was set for the Wednesday morning General Session with the presentation of colors by Captains Martin Salazar and Craig Deal of the Albuquerque Fire Rescue Color Guard and the singing of our National Anthem by our local, yet nationally renowned soprano, Cammy Cook. Carolyn Levering, Director of the Office of Emergency Management for Las Vegas, captivated us when she presented What Happened in Vegas – The 1 October Mass Shooting Experience. This concluded with a standing ovation and few dry eyes.

There were ten Concurrent Sessions that offered presentations on a variety of topics including Wildland Fires, EPI, Hazards Analysis, Public Affairs, CRAD, Technology, COOP, Training & Drills, the Common Operating Picture and Readiness Assurance.

Our four Benchmarking Sessions allowed sites to take a close look at how other sites ran their Exercise Programs, handled EPI/Social Media, dealt with Protective Actions & Accountability and organized their ERO Training & Qualification Programs.

We closed the Meeting with a special presentation on MANHATTAN: The View from Los Alamos of History’s Most Secret Project by Alan B. Carr, LANL historian, followed by Jose Berrios, our NA-41 Sponsor, closing thoughts and concluded with our Annual Award Presentations (but that’s for another story).

But that was not the end! For some of our enduring attendees, we concluded with two Post-Meeting workshops on Exercise Builder and the CRAD Standard.

Thanks to you, we saw double digit increases in presentation proposals, Mobile App accounts, and early registrations!  Once you arrived, it only took 13 seconds for you to get checked in at registration (we timed it!) thanks to the new barcoded name badges.  Our Tech Team was available throughout the meeting to help you with SharePoint accounts.  The customer service provided by the Marriott was second to none! We lucked out by having one of the nation’s top AV companies, Alliance Audio Visual, in our hometown. The local gals from Strawberries & Blondes, captured the enthusiasm in all their pictures…we’ll let you be the judge!

As proud members of the EMI SIG Operations Support Staff (OpSS), we put our hearts and souls into making sure you felt welcome in our hometown known as the “Land of Enchantment” and are so grateful for all the kind words and compliments we received throughout this year’s Annual Meeting!
